Miksang Photography

Miksang (“Good Eye”) is a form of Contemplative Photography based on the Dharma Art teachings of  Shambhala founder Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

Contemplative photography inspires clear seeing through original curiosity and openness rather than observing with preconceived ideas.  We synchronize eye and mind, abandon concepts and become completely present in the moment.  Resting in this moment, we use the camera to form the equivalent image of  our heartfelt perception.

Photographic training and expensive equipment are not required.  The best camera is one you are able to have with you most of the time.

If you’re interested in this art form, let us know – with interest, we can bring in a teacher for this powerful and fun practice.  We can, if you like, form a Miksang group that meets occasionally to take pictures and then relax and look at each other’s work and share what the pictures evoke for us.  Surprisingly friendly and intimate!

Discovering Magic

Chogyam Trungpa“Whether you care to communicate with it or not, the magical strength and wisdom of reality are always there….By relaxing the mind, you can reconnect with that primordial, original ground, which is completely pure and simple. Out of that, through the medium of your perceptions, you can discover magic, (which in the Shambhala tradition is called ) drala. You actually can connect your own intrinsic wisdom with a sense of greater wisdom or vision beyond you.

“You might think that something extraordinary will happen to you when you discover magic. Something extra-ordinary does happen. You simply find yourself in the realm of utter reality, complete and thorough reality.”

Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche
